Ori Tzvieli, MD

Dr. Ori Tzvieli is the Health Officer and Public Health Director for Contra Costa County Health. 

Dr. Ori Tzvieli was appointed Health Officer of Contra Costa County in February 2022, and Director of Contra Costa Health’s (CCH) Public Health Division in September 2021. 

Dr. Tzvieli has helped to lead the county’s emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing testing, vaccination, case investigation and contact tracing, and laboratory functions. As Health Officer, and previously as a deputy health officer, he has been an important resource to community partners, school administrators, elected officials and the Association of Bay Area Health Officers. 

In his role as Public Health Division Director, Dr. Tzvieli supervises many programs essential to the health of county residents, including nursing and clinical services, communicable disease surveillance and prevention programs, and an array of work to improve community wellness, from senior nutrition programs to services supporting family, maternal and child health. 

Dr. Tzvieli joined CCH as a family medicine resident at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) in 2000, launching a career in the county's healthcare delivery system that has led to several leadership roles, including Medical Staff President, Ambulatory Care Medical Director, Public Health Medical Director. 

During his time with CCH, Dr. Tzvieli has championed collaborative efforts to address opioid addiction, including the development of Choosing Change, Contra Costa's outpatient MAT program currently serving over 900 patients. He has also cared for some of the county's most vulnerable residents as medical director of the Health Care for the Homeless program. 

Dr. Tzvieli received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and a Master of Health Science from the University of California at Berkeley School of Public Health. He is a Health Care Fellow with America’s Essential Hospitals and an alumnus of the CHCF Health Care Leadership Program.
