Eric Gebbie, DrPH, MVA
Dr. Eric Gebbie currently serves as the Deputy Director and Interim Director of Emergency Operations for the Oregon Health Authority’s Public Health Division, where he manages the Health Security, Preparedness and Response Program. He has served in research, consulting and governmental practice in these fields since 1999, in New York City, central New York State, Chicago, the Philippines, Arkansas, and Oregon. He began his work in public health preparedness at the Columbia University School of Nursing Center for Health Policy and the Mailman School of Public Health Center for Public Health Preparedness, where he supported a major national public health workforce enumeration, development of the CDC public health preparedness and response competencies, and the evaluation of the city health department response to the September 11, 2001 terrorism attacks.
Dr. Gebbie’s academic appointments include serving as an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine, and instructor at University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health where he has taught public health preparedness and disaster response in the online Masters of Public Health program since 2018. He has presented at peer-reviewed scientific conferences on the practice and evaluation of cross-border deployments, public health responses to active shooter events, roles for healthcare volunteers in a variety of incidents, integration of alternative and complimentary care practitioners in disaster response, online modalities for preparedness instruction, leadership development, workforce surge capacity issues, and the use of the incident command system for public health exercises and response. He received his Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) in public health leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. His prior studies included a Master’s in International Affairs (MIA) from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, and a Master of Arts with Honours (MA Hons) in social anthropology from the University of St Andrews, Scotland.
