Cathy Slemp, MD, MPH

 

Dr. Cathy Slemp, MD, MPH has committed her career to the health of individuals and communities, currently having her own consulting practice after many years of service at state and national levels. Prior positions include 18 years with the WV Bureau for Public Health, most recently as Commissioner and State Health Officer. She has also served as State Preparedness Director and as founding director of the Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology.

Besides being a local advocate for health, Dr. Slemp works as an action learning coach with the National Leadership Academy for the Public’s Health and as a member and workgroup lead for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC’s) Board of Scientific Counselors, Center for Preparedness and Response. She serves on the US Department of Health and Human Services’ National Biodefense Science Board and with various local community agencies. She received her bachelor’s from Princeton University, MD from Duke University, and Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins. Dr. Slemp is board certified in both Preventive Medicine and Family Medicine and loves calling West Virginia home.
